Purple and White Datura

There aren't too many things in my every day life that just take my breath away, but I gotta admit that the beauty of this flower did a pretty good job. A very dear friend gave me this plant after I mentioned that it should be the official flower of my old alma mater because the purple and white blooms were the same as the school colors. The plant is loaded with buds. As I was doing research to find out how to care for it, I learned that it's extremely poisonous and is a hallucinogen. Since I don't plan to eat it or smoke it, I will just enjoy it.

(Wikipedia states that the Datura belongs to the classic "witches' weeds," along with deadly nightshade, henbane, and mandrake. Most parts of the plants contain toxic hallucinogens, and Datura has a long history of use for causing delirious states and death. It was well known as an essential ingredient of love potions and witches' brews.)
