Good Eats!

From a dance hall built in 1929 to a restaurant serving delicious home cooked meals today, PoPo's Family Restaurant has become a landmark of Nelson City, Texas. Originally named Po-Po Cafe, it's generally accepted that it was named after the great Mexican volcano, Popocatepetl. Ned Houston owned the place at the time and said he wanted a short, punchy name. I was four years old when I went there to listen to my grandpa play his fiddle with his three other band members. That particular night, I learned how to waltz and have loved to dance ever since. The dance hall portion of the restaurant is now a large dining area where you will find homemade potato salad, barbecued ribs, fried catfish and the best fried chicken you've ever tasted. Do yourself a favor and go there soon - if not to eat, at least go look at the more than 2000 plates that adorn the walls and rafters.
