Today, my sister and I took a drive down memory lane. We visited my grandparents' old home place. This creek runs right below the hill to their house. As a kid, I could hardly wait for summer nights when the water was warmer and I would grab a towel and a bar of Lifeboy soap and head for the creek to take a bath. The creek was surrounded by cattails and tall grass, but stepping on a snake was the farthest thing from my mind. After all, the dog was always with me and would protect me from anything....
My sister, on the other hand, recalled sitting in this same area and just enjoying the cool water on a hot summer day. Less than 3 feet from her was a cottonmouth water moccasin, coiled under a ledge of dense grass that jutted out in the water. Neither of us has any desire to go back in that water again, but being there today brought back a flood of memories and the good times of our childhood.
