Gold Finch

This is a female Lesser Goldfinch. They are similar to the female American Goldfinch, but have a darker, dull yellow hue on the back. The males are very different, with the American Goldfinch male being bright yellow with a yellow cap. The Lesser male has a black back. They both have yellow undersides. I have seen many Lesser Gold Finches in the Hill Country, but have never seen the American Goldfinch here.
